Cell Phone Explosion

Is it possible that a cell phone battery can explode? According to a report that i've read a while ago, a cell phone ignited in a man's pocket and started a fire that burned his hotel room and caused severe burns over half his body. Well this is not an old issue, several phone battery explosions have been registered in the last two years. Most of them were caused by Motorola devices with counterfeit batteries. In the United States at least 83 people were burned from cell phone battery explosions during this period.
