79 people were killed in a stampede that followed shouts of “bomb! bomb!” during a mad rush for free tickets to the ABS-CBN TV show Wowowee.
This unfortunate event, which will now come down in Philippine history as the Wowowee Tragedy, comes at a time when ABS-CBN was preparing to launch the second edition of PinoyBigBrother. ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. on Saturday expressed sadness over the tragedy.
Some believe that ABS-CBN should not push through with the PinoyBigBrother Celebrity grand bash in light of this incident, and take bigger responsiblity for the loss of lives. Vice President Noli De Castro, a former ABS-CBN talent, should stay neutral and not defend his former employer.
