A photographer's solution to making sure his expensive camera equipment is watched carefully by the airline when he has to check it as luggage.

All firearms must be in checked baggage, no carry on.

All firearms must be transported in a locked, hard sided case using a non-TSA approved lock. This is to prevent anyone from opening the case after its been screened.

After bringing the equipment to the airline counter and declaring and showing the contents to the airline representative, you take it over to the TSA screening area where it it checked by a screener, relocked in front of you, your key or keys returned to you (if it's not a combination lock) and put directly on the conveyor belt for loading onto the plane.

No markings, stickers or labels identifying what's inside are put on the outside of the case or, if packed inside something else, the bag.

Then someone has the brilliant suggestion of putting a firearm in your camera-equipment case:

A "weapons" is defined as a rifle, shotgun, pistol, airgun, and STARTER PISTOL. Yes, starter pistols - those little guns that fire blanks at track and swim meets - are considered weapons...and do NOT have to be registered in any state in the United States.
I have a starter pistol for all my cases. All I have to do upon check-in is tell the airline ticket agent that I have a weapon to declare...I'm given a little card to sign, the card is put in the case, the case is given to a TSA official who takes my key and locks the case, and gives my key back to me.

That's the procedure. The case is extra-tracked...TSA does not want to lose a weapons case. This reduces the chance of the case being lost to virtually zero.

It's a great way to travel with camera gear...I've been doing this since Dec 2001 and have had no problems whatsoever. continue...

The discovery was made by a team of Canadian scientists who used special infrared and three-dimensional technology to peer through hitherto impenetrable paint layers on the work, which now sits in the Louvre museum in Paris.

Bruno Mottin of the French Museums' Center for Research and Restoration said that on very close examination of the painting it became clear that the Mona Lisa's dress was covered in a thin transparent gauze veil.

"This type of gauze dress ... was typical of the kind worn in early 16th century Italy by women who were pregnant or who had just given birth. Fetus found cut by just a scissor

A woman whose fetus had been cut from her womb -- perhaps with scissors -- was found dead in a weedy lot. Investigators recovered what may be the stolen fetus and searched the woods Friday for the victim's three children.

A 26-year-old woman who police say was with the children when they were last seen Monday was taken into custody. Police said she held a funeral earlier this week for what she claimed was her stillborn child; investigators are now analyzing those remains to see if they are the stolen fetus.

Authorities provided few details of the investigation and stopped short of calling the woman a suspect in the slaying of 23-year-old Jimella Tunstall, saying only that she was a person of interest.

Surfing the JAWS

Surfers have been chasing big waves since the 1950s when Californians first headed to Hawaii to tackle big winter swells that smash onto the northshore of the island of Oahu.

Yet there was always a limit to the size of wave a paddling surfer could catch, as the bigger the wave the faster it travels.

In the mid-1990s a group of Hawaiians led by Laird Hamilton, the world's best big wave surfer, used a jet ski to whip themselves onto giant unbroken waves at around 30 mph (48 kmph).

As the massive wave broke, the surfers were already speeding down the wave face, outracing the thunderous lip. The development of small tow boards with foot straps enabled them to use their speed to carve turns on the giant watery canvas.

Advancements in surf forecasting has also fuelled extreme big wave surfing, with surfers using the Internet and satellites to track storms and forecast when a giant swell will hit a reef.



Hawaiian Pete Cabrinha holds the title for the biggest wave ever ridden -- a monster Jaws wave measuring 70 feet (21 metres) which broke on a reef off the Hawaiian island of Maui in 2004.

But the big wave surfers who follow the world's winter storms, hunting down massive ocean swells off Hawaii, California, South Africa, Mexico and Australia, believe a 100-foot (30-metre) wave will one day be ridden.

Rogue 100-foot waves, the height of a 10 storey building, were once a maritime myth but scientists say they are out there. Pressure readings from ocean buoys in the Gulf of Mexico during Hurricane Katrina indicated waves of that magnitude in the storm.

I love mexico! Mexicans are very nice people. Mexicans are people oriented, and they will put friends, family and relatives before work or business matters. They are not stoic when it comes to passion for the honor of their mothers, sisters, wives or daughters. Family values in Mexico were preserved, even in the era of industrialization and social change, because the traditional family serves as protection and release from the troubling outside world. Religion has been a factor in the country's high birth rate and opposition of birth control, until recently the government supported the use of birth control acceptable to a mostly Catholic society.

My cousins often visit mexico, its not that far from their place in San diego, California. Sooner or later i'll be joining them, for the mean time i'll find some perfect beach resorts to stay. I can't wait to visit the beautiful revieras and palm beaches, i've heard that we can go scuba diving there too. I'll keep you updated once i get there!

Level 3 Communications will provide big-pipe connectivity to help the video portal YouTube keep up with its rapid growth, the two companies said today. Under the terms of the agreement, Level 3 will speed YouTube's video delivery with high speed Internet access through multiple 10 gigabits per second (10GigE) ports across a nationwide fiber network connecting YouTube's data centers.

"We selected Level 3 because we needed a carrier with a highly advanced, stable, scalable network and a service portfolio that would enable us to manage the magnitude of growth that we continue to experience with more than 100 million videos being watched per day on our site,"

said Steve Chen, chief technology officer and co-founder at YouTube.
